Stop Hiding Behind Jargon

Speak like a person, not a policy.

Most professional firms want to sound smart. That’s fair. But using industry jargon doesn’t help—it hurts. When your words confuse people, they lose interest fast.

Why Clarity Beats Complexity

People don’t want to feel dumb when reading your website or emails. If your language is too technical, they’ll stop reading and move on. Clear words build trust. They show that you care about being understood, not just sounding clever.

Think about how people speak when they really want to be heard. They use short, simple words. They get to the point. That’s how your business should speak too.

What Jargon Looks Like

Phrases like “leveraging synergies,” “regulatory framework alignment,” or “bespoke solutions tailored to stakeholder needs” might sound smart to you. But to a client? It’s a blur. They want to know:

  • What do you do?

  • How will it help me?

  • What should I do next?

If your words don’t answer those questions fast, you’re losing people.

What to Do Instead

  • Use plain English.

  • Say one idea per sentence.

  • Use bullet points to make lists easy to scan.

  • Read it out loud. If it sounds odd, rewrite it.

Your Clients Will Thank You

Clear, human language makes people feel welcome. It shows you’re confident enough to speak simply. And that’s powerful. People don’t remember fancy words—they remember how you made them feel.
